Staff Spotlight: Mitch Fittro

Staff Spotlight: Mitch Fittro

Mitch Fittro joined the The Health Education and Resources Institute (THEARI) team in November of 2015 as the Youth Program Coordinator and Student Housing Liaison. Over time, Mitch’s role has grown, and he now serves as the Education and Workforce Manager for THEARI. Mitch brings a unique and diverse experience to THEARI’s educational programs from his previous work in public education, group homes, summer camps, and other student-facing positions. Mitch loves developing relationships not only with students, but with his workforce, educational, and hosting partners across the metro area. In building partnerships with local stakeholders across a range of educational entities, Mitch thrives in the collaborative and community-based nature of his work.

Mitch was born in Ohio and spent his early childhood in Iowa. When he was 12, he moved back to Ohio and spent the rest of his youth there. After high school, Mitch attended Bowling Green State University (Go Falcons!) studying psychology. Mitch is the first person in his family to attend college and considers his years at Bowling Green to be the most formative of his life. After graduation, Mitch decided to explore new opportunities and communities, taking a position supporting young adults in a group home in Chicago, teaching life skills and providing mentorship.

Mitch and his family have always loved Colorado, having traveled to the state many times over in his youth, including visits to extended family in the state. Shortly after his stint in Chicago, Mitch decided to make a dream reality, and make the journey out to Colorado himself. Mitch has since been followed by his immediate family, and so he, his parents, and his brother, along with additional extended family, all now call Colorado home.

Mitch also absolutely loves watching sports and spends his weekends and evenings cheering on his native Ohio teams, the Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds. In addition to being a sports fanatic, Mitch also enjoys collecting comic books, trying new breweries, and barbequing with his friends and family. He and his wife, Megan, are the proud dog parents of 2 of THEARI’s mascots, Boone and Bailey. On the rare occasion that Boone or Bailey is not sitting on Mitch’s lap during Zoom meetings, they can definitely be heard in the background!
